This Playlist Will Pull You Out of Apathy. No, Seriously.

Hi, friends.

I didn’t know I was gone until I started coming back. There was no soul-screaming, mirror-smashing movie moment. Just a slow, quiet disappearing act.

One day, I was too sad to go out. Then too tired to talk. Then, too numb to care. Before I knew it, my spark was gone, and I wasn’t sure if I’d ever get it back.

When my dad died, something in me curled up and checked out. I couldn't even begin to deal with my grief. And honestly? I stayed stuck there for years.

I wasn't really living. I was sleepwalking through holidays, birthdays, and deadlines. I couldn’t cry, I couldn’t scream, I couldn’t feel much of anything. And the worst part? Nobody knew. I was good at looking “okay.”

But I wasn’t okay.

If you’ve ever felt like you died right alongside someone you lost, if you've been stuck in apathy, drowning in grief, frozen by fear, or numbed by heartbreak, I made this for us. It’s not a miracle. But it’s something that helped me, slowly, gently, remember how to feel again.

Music helped me come back to myself. And this playlist was born from that process. It's not just good songs. It's emotional CPR. Each track is placed intentionally to help move you through the emotional scale, from apathy to enlightenment. From “I feel nothing” to “I can finally breathe again.”

TLDR: What’s This Playlist Actually For?

If you’re apathetic, you’re not lazy. You’re not weak. You’re in shock. You’ve flatlined emotionally because you couldn’t keep feeling what you were feeling. That’s survival mode. And this playlist is your invitation to step back into the world, one emotion at a time.

Let Me Walk You Through It

1. Apathy

A. “Hold On” by Adele

Adele’s “Hold On” feels like a warm hug on a cold day, inviting us to pause and sit with our emotions. Her soaring voice comforts us in our struggles, gently reminding us that it’s okay to feel lost and that vulnerability is part of the journey.

B. “Bored” by Billie Eilish

Billie Eilish beautifully captures those monotonous days when inspiration feels out of reach. Her haunting vocals remind us that it’s perfectly okay to embrace boredom. Sometimes, those quiet moments can spark the most profound reflections and creativity.

C. “The Drugs Don’t Work” by The Verve

This track plunges into the depths of despair, highlighting the foolish and misguided hope of using external remedies for internal pain. It resonates deeply as a reminder that life's hardships are where true strength and resilience are born.

2. Grief

Song: “Fix You” by Coldplay

It’s almost too obvious. This is when the tears finally came. I was making pasta and just sat on the floor and let myself cry for the first time in ages. Grief is real and should be felt, not ignored. This song doesn’t try to lift you up, it just lets you fall apart, and that felt like exactly what I needed.

3. Fear

Song: “Everybody’s Got to Learn Sometime” by Beck

After grief, fear sets in. Fear that the pain will never fade. Fear of change and of feeling anything at all. This song feels like a soft fog, it doesn't scream, it just hangs around. It’s that awkward in-between phase where you realize you can’t go back to who you used to be, but you’re nervous about the future. It’s holding your hand through it all.

4. Desire

Song: “Need You Tonight” by INXS

This is the shift. You’re still feeling down, but there’s a spark now, maybe it’s love or just the urge to feel alive again. That craving is your comeback, your inner self saying, “We’re not done yet.” This song hits raw, real, and full of life. Crank it up and let it move you.

5. Anger

Song: “Piece of My Heart” by Janis Joplin

When your desires go unmet, it’s okay to be mad. Anger isn’t the enemy, it’s your energy. It tells you, “I’m not fine, and I deserve more.” Janis didn’t shy away from her rage, she let it out loud and proud. So scream if you need to, feel those fists tighten. You’re standing up for yourself.

6. Pride

Song: “Respect” by Aretha Franklin

You’re standing taller now. You’ve faced some tough times, but you’re still here and starting to realize your worth. It’s time to stop asking and start claiming what’s yours. Let Aretha be your anthem. Sing it to your past, your pain, and that part of you that thought you’d never bounce back.

7. Courage

Song: “Don’t Stop Me Now” by Queen

We’re on the move now. It’s time to embrace a new you, scarred but shining, scared yet here. This song is your confidence boost. It’s like saying, “Go ahead, try to hold me back.” Blast it while you walk. Dance like no one's watching. This is your moment to rise.

8. Neutrality

Song: “One Step Beyond” by Madness

Neutrality gets overlooked, honestly. It’s not about being numb, it’s more like a chill, “I’m okay with whatever.” This song is pure chaos in the best way, it pulls you out of overthinking and gets your body moving, one step beyond lol. No need to overanalyze it. Just enjoy the vibes and let loose.

9. Willingness

Song: “Song 2” by Blur

Healing isn’t neat, it’s loud, chaotic, and all over the place. Being willing to heal means trying new things, even if you stumble along the way. It might be chatting up someone cute at the farmer’s market after a long time. This song is all about that energy: “Let’s GO.”

10. Acceptance

Song: “Changes” by Black Sabbath

This is the moment you let go. You stop fighting. You might not be okay with what happened, but you're not trying to change it anymore. You see things as they are, without the urge to fix them. Just let it all wash over you. It's raw, real, and beautiful in its own way.

11. Reason

Song: “Shallow” by Bradley Cooper & Lady Gaga

You're starting to get the pain now. You’ve stepped back and see how it all connects. There’s a clarity to it. You’re viewing your life differently. This song resonates because it mixes both the hurt and the understanding. Gaga and Bradley lay it all out there.

12. Love

Song: “The Story” by Brandi Carlile

This is a deep, sacred kind of love. Not pink hearts and candy wrappers. The kind that says, “I’ve seen you ugly cry and I still love you.” The kind that includes you loving you. Listen to this in the bathtub. Or on a solo walk. Let it wrap around your bones.

13. Joy

Song: “More Than This” by Roxy Music

You’re floating now. There’s lightness. Sparkles. Air in your lungs. This is not happy-clappy joy. It’s the kind that makes you cry because it’s just so... good. You made it.

14. Peace

Song: “Golden Hour” by Kacey Musgraves

This is golden. Soft. Quiet. No need to prove anything, fix anything, fight anything. This is the exhale after the storm. Let yourself bask in it. You earned it.

15. Enlightenment

Song: “A New Day Has Come” by Celine Dion

This is resurrection. This is light coming through the cracks. This is you, not just alive, but radiant. Let this be your new beginning. Your reminder that even after years of numbness, you can come back. You did come back. Bonus: The Radio Remix!
